This region encompasses the 5\' regulatory region of the fibroblast growth factor 19 gene. It includes a conserved enhancer element that drives expression of a reporter transgene in neural tissue. Activity of this sequence is stimulated by ER stress and nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 2 (Nr1i2/Pxr) and mediated through binding of activating transcription factor 4 and nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group H member 4 (Nr1h4/Fxr)/retinoid X receptor to recognition sites in this region.
