This record represents a region containing multiple origins of DNA replication located within the intergenic spacer of the 43 kb ribosomal DNA repeat. This region contains sequences with similarity to DNA unwinding elements (DUE) and an ARS consensus sequence (ACS), which are important for DNA replication in yeast and may be found near mammalian replication origins. A sequence element in this region shows intrinsic bending ability. Replication of the ribosomal DNA may occur throughout the repeat for transcribed repeats in early S phase, but may be more restricted to particular initiation sites for non-transcribed repeats that replicate later in S phase. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016] Annotation information: Note: only annotated on alternate loci in reference assembly; GeneID:107403080 represents a portion of the ribosomal DNA repeat, which is present in multiple copies on multiple chromosomes, though ribosomal DNA clusters are not represented in chromosomal units of the GRCh38 reference assembly [24 Oct 2016]
